How Do I Apply?

M.P.H.

The application process and requirements for the two-year and three-year paths are the same.

  • Apply online. The application is free.
    • Applicants to either path complete the same M.P.H. application. In the body of the application, two-year path applicants will select “full-time” and three-year path applicants will select “part-time.”
  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Provide three letters of recommendation and a personal statement
  • There are no interviews in the application process.
  • G.R.E. is optional.
  • Scholarships are available.

M.D./M.P.H.

  • Apply and receive admittance to UTSW’s M.D. Program. We send you an email with more information about the dual degree application after you’re admitted into the M.D. program.
  • Complete the M.P.H. Program application through the online portal. You may begin the M.P.H. application at any time during the application period, but do not submit your application before you receive your M.D. admittance.
  • Provide a personal statement.

MSCI

  • Apply online. The application is free.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field is required.
  • The three letters of recommendation should come from mentors, professors, or supervisors who work in a STEM-related field.
  • Include a personal statement.
  • There are no interviews in the application process.
  • G.R.E. and M.C.A.T. scores are optional.

Ph.D.

  • Apply online. The application is free.
  • Professional degrees or master's degrees required, but exceptions may be permitted for outstanding candidates on an individual basis
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Statement of purpose and objectives
  • Writing Sample
  • An interview with the Admissions Committee (if invited)
  • G.R.E. is optional

Certificate Programs

  • Apply online. The application is free.
  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • G.R.E. is optional.
  • UT Southwestern does not sponsor F1 student visas for non-degree seeking/certificate students.
  • Provide a personal statement and resume.

In 1,000 words or less, please:

  • State your reasons for pursuing an M.P.H.
  • Clearly and concisely, describe your relevant public health experience.
  • Indicate why you feel UT Southwestern might be a good fit for you.

MSCI Personal Statement

Your personal statement is a chance for us to get to know you and your academic and professional goals as a potential student in our program.

In 1,000 words or less, please:

  • State your reasons for pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation.
  • How would this program enhance your career in research?
  • Describe your long-term career goals.

Ph.D. Statement of Purpose and Objectives

  • What interests you about your chosen concentration: Applied Epidemiology, Clinical Investigation, Health Data Science or Health Economics and Policy?
  • Why did you choose UT Southwestern?
  • Describe your research interest, relevant work, and commitment to public health.
  • What are your short- and long-term career objectives?
  • Describe how your personal background and life experiences led to your decision to pursue a Ph.D. in Public Health.

Certificate Personal Statement

Your personal statement is a chance for us to get to know you and your academic and professional goals as a potential student in our program.

In 1000 words or less, please:

  • State your reasons for pursuing a certificate in your chosen area.
  • Clearly and concisely, describe your relevant public health experience.
